Location/Description
|
Montevideo is located in Chippewa County in western Minnesota, approximately 130 miles west of St. Paul, Minn. The city is at the confluence of the Chippewa and Minnesota rivers.
The area is subject to flooding from both rivers. Three areas are affected: the 1969 levee area, the Smith Addition and the U.S. Highway 212 area.

Status
|
In fiscal year 2008, federal funding was provided to fully fund all construction contracts. The project cooperation agreement was executed in August 2007, and award of the Stage 1 construction contract is scheduled for fiscal year 2008.
Stage 1 work will include approximately 1,600 linear feet of levees by Canton Avenue, a seepage berm in Smith Park and minor changes to catch basins along Highway 212.
Stage 2 work will include a Highway 212 road raise and levee, levees in the 1969 area, a levee at the wastewater treatment plant, a closure structure at the railroad, a Parkview Drive road raise, two gate wells and two pump stations.

Authority
|
The authority for this project is provided by Section 205 of the Flood Control Act of 1948, as amended.
|
Fiscal
|
The feasibility study was cost shared between the federal government and the non-federal sponsor, the city of Montevideo. The federal portion provides for the first $100,000 of study costs; the remaining study cost was split 50 percent each. The final design and construction cost is shared, with the city contributing a minimum of 35 percent and the federal government contributing the remainder.
Current design and implementation costs are as follows:

Total estimated cost $10.3 million
