Unifest, which was founded by Union Temple Baptist Church, is an annual cultural festival that attracts many to the Anacostia community on the first weekend in June.

The church’s “Unity Games” began in 1982 as a day of fellowship, and included track and field events for its members. Three years later, the “Chitlin Strut, Chicken Stroll, Down Home Cultural Festival and Parade” welcomed members of the community. Unifest activities celebrate the African American heritage, and the rich culture of the local community. Many find delight in the kick-off parade, variety of foods, demonstrations, musical entertainment, games, and the marketplace that line Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue

The Reverend Willie Wilson says, “ This two-day event is about people from all walks of life coming together and demonstrating that over 200,000 people can come together in peace, harmony, and good wholesome fellowship.”
