Visitation
The Hillsdale Lake Project annual visitation is measured by "visitor hours", a visitor hour represents one visitor at the lake for one hour. Hillsdale Lake visitation continues to grow each year, due to the projects proximity to the Kansas City Metro area. In 1993, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks opened the lake to camping by completing the development of a campground. Prior to the opening of the campground, no camping was allowed at Hillsdale Lake.
The majority of the visitation to Hillsdale Lake includes: campers, fishermen, boaters, hunters, hikers, swimmers and sightseers. With further development of Hillsdale Lake, visitation should continue to climb.
