Corps of Engineers provides Lock and Dam 7 statistics for the 2008 navigation season

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – Exactly 7,923 vessels and 7,258,768 tons of cargo passed through Lock and Dam 7, located near La Crescent, Minn., during the 2008 navigation season from April 11-Dec. 5. The MV Angela K was the last tow to pass through Dec. 5.
Of these vessels, 825 were commercial, 6,988 were recreational and 110 were of the other category, such as government watercraft. This number marks a decrease in navigation traffic from 2007, where 8,572 craft passed through Lock and Dam 7 – 1,145 of them commercial, 7,384 of them recreational and 43 other.
In 2007, the amount of commodities transported through Lock and Dam 7 was 10,428,410 tons.

Navigation statistics fluctuate from year to year, depending on the weather, the flows and the length of the navigation season.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, constructed Lock and Dam 7 in 1937 and maintains it to this day. The lock’s last major rehabilitation occurred from 1989-2002.
