Corps of Engineers provides Lock and Dam 10 statistics for the 2008 navigation season

SAINT PAUL, MINN. -- Exactly 4,532 vessels and 11,851,569 tons of cargo passed through Lock and Dam 10, located near Guttenberg, Iowa, during the 2008 navigation season from April 11-Dec. 5. The MV Gold Cup was the last tow to pass through Dec. 5.
Of these vessels, 1,052 were commercial, 3,404 were recreational and 76 were of the other category, such as government watercraft. This number marks a decrease in navigation traffic from 2007, when 6,016 craft passed through Lock and Dam 10 – 1,467 of them commercial, 4,525 of them recreational and 24 other.
In 2007, the amount of commodities transported through Lock and Dam 10 was 11,851,569 tons.

Navigation statistics fluctuate from year to year, depending on the weather, the flows and the length of the navigation season.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, constructed Lock and Dam 10 in 1937 and maintains it to this day. A major rehabilitation of this lock and dam started in 1989 and was completed this year.
