Lake Facts
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has the responsibility for managing the 35 square miles of land and water at Clinton Lake.
Lands around the lake are managed by the Corps of Engineers to preserve their natural value. Land management practices such as prairie restoration, prescribed burning and tree planting help conserve soil and benefit wildlife.Clinton Lake provides flood protection for 156 square miles of the Wakarusa River valley downstream from the dam, and is part of a network of Corps Lakes that help control flooding on the Kansas, Missouri and Mississippi Rivers.
A portion of the lake storage is used to provide water, up to 10 million gallons per day, to the City of Lawrence and surrounding communities.
