Summary of North Carolina's Work as Part of the Initiative (2004-2005):
North Carolina continued its strategic planning process and focused their work on four areas: infant/toddler caregivers, financing infant/toddler care, program standards for infant/toddler care, and public knowledge and engagement regarding infant/toddler care.

North Carolina's Child Care and Development Fund Quality Infant/Toddler Earmark:

FY 2006 : The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark is $3,187,075.

The funds are used in the following ways to enhance the North Carolina infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may be used to support these activities):

FY 2004: The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark was $3,137,747.

The funds were used in the following ways to enhance the North Carolina infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may have been used to support these activities):

  • To augment the existing child care health consultation system and provide modeling, mentoring, training, technical assistance and resource development to infant and toddler programs and caregivers.
  • To publish and distribute a bi-monthly Child Care Health and Safety Bulletin and an annual Child Care Health and Safety Calendar for all licensed child care facilities statewide. These are produced in both English and Spanish.
  • To support the NC Child Care Health and Safety Resource Center for child care providers to access with health and safety questions.
  • T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® scholarships for providers of infant and toddler child care.
  • To provide training for infant caregivers on safe sleep practices through Infant-Toddler Safe Sleep and SIDS Risk Reduction (ITS-SIDS) Training.
