Visiting Scientist/Student Intern ProgramVisiting scientists and student interns significantly contribute to GRID-Sioux Falls activities. The purpose of this invitation is to increase the awareness of scientists, students and environmental managers regarding opportunities for professional development in the Program for Visiting Scientists and Student Interns at GRID-Sioux Falls. Activities of GRID-Sioux Falls relate to various aspects of global environmental monitoring and assessment, with particular focus on changes in land cover and land use, land degradation, loss of biodiversity, and shared fresh water resources. Specifically, GRID-Sioux Falls is looking for collaborators to work in the following areas: Framework and methodologies for global monitoring
and assessments
This above list suggest the range of potential applications. The specific topic will be discussed between visiting scientist or student intern and host staff. GRID-Sioux Falls will provide office space, telephone, fax, e-mail, computing facilities, access to remote sensing data and other data sets to visiting Scientists and Student Interns. Other significant benefits include access to interactions with remote sensing and GIS experts, knowledge of global and regional environmental issues, global/regional datasets, access to networks of institutions and scientists around the world, and the opportunity to work on ongoing projects being implemented by UNEP in collaboration with USGS, NASA, USFS, and USEPA. Due recognition will be given to collaborating scientists/institutions in publications and other outputs to which the collaborator has significantly contributed. Visiting scientists and student interns who are not able to work at the GRID-Sioux Falls office could work from their host institution on mutually agreed conditions. A brief outline of the proposal needs to be submitted to UNEP/GRID-Sioux Falls. For further information, contact: Dr. Ashbindu Singh |
