Local Assistance Centers provide program information and referrals to those who have already registered for assistance under an October 24 disaster declaration by President Bush at the request of Governor Schwarzenegger. Representatives of local, state, federal and voluntary agencies are available to discuss these programs:

The local assistance centers are designed for the exchange of helpful information. No money changes hands there.

Applicants are encouraged to register for federal and state assistance before visiting a local assistance center by calling the FEMA toll-free number: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).  Those who are speech- or hearing-impaired may call a TTY number: 1-800-462-7585.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
