Contacting the NASA History Division

We encourage scholars, students, journalists, and all others with an interest in NASA's history to visit our office in person to conduct research. We have a large collection of material that is open to the public. We encourage contacting us before visiting so we can help guide your research. We also recommend viewing the PDF Research in NASA History and our site detailing what NASA Records the National Archives has available. You may also want to consider visiting one or more of NASA's field centers to do historical research.

If you would like to do research at our office, please call 202-358-0384 or email histinfo@hq.nasa.gov at least two days in advance. Please tell us when you'd like to visit, your full name, research topic, address, work and home phone numbers, and whether you are a U.S. citizen. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please try to contact us at least two weeks before your proposed visit. Thank you for understanding and abiding by NASA Headquarters' new security regulations.

The NASA History Division is open during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30). We are located in the NASA Headquarters Building at 300 E Street SW, Washington, DC 20546 (mail code IQ), which is close to the Federal Center SW and L'Enfant Plaza Metro stops. Thank you for your interest in NASA's history.
