At DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam schools, the Information Specialists (ISs)

|
|
|
|
promote information literacy which consists of multiple literacies, including digital, visual, textual, and technological.
|
|
assist in promoting students and educators in developing the capability to inquire, think critically, gain knowledge, draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge, and create new knowledge.
|
|
manage the information center.
|
|
|
|
DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam initiatives for Information Specialists and Information Centers to promote information literacy include:

|
|
promote, train, and utilize the three DoDEA online database subscription services (Gale, ProQuest, and NewsBank) available at school and home. The databases increase access to reliable internet resources and are in sync with the Pacific internet safety program.
|
|
foster and promote internet safety for grades K-12 students and staff by being appropriately involved in the Pacific Internet Safety program.
|
|
participate in IS training to support collaboration and manage the Information Center.
|
|
utilize assistance from the team of Pacific Information Specialists who support overall Information Center management, including the electronic information automation system.
|
|
|
|
utilize timely information about data collection, procurement, and effective information science practices.
|
|
