Argonne Is an Employer of Choice
The laboratory recognizes that attracting the best and brightest minds
and retaining top-level talent requires more than pay, flexible working
hours and benefits. To continue providing the best scientific research
in the nation's interest, Argonne is dedicated to being an employer of
choice. Argonne strives to:
- Improve the quality of employee work life to foster staff satisfaction,
individual contribution and organizational effectiveness.
- Maintain a compensation policy that is competitive with peer organizations
and that rewards distinguished performance,
- Promote the commitment of managers at all levels to equal opportunity,
affirmative action and diversity,
- Develop laboratory leadership and staff capabilities through management
training and skill development, and
- Provide services that promote employee well-being and productivity.
The laboratory is committed to equal opportunity for all. Argonne values
the diverse cultural and ethnical backgrounds of employees and strives
to create an environment that capitalizes on these differences as one
means of maintaining a high-performance work force.
In 2005, the National Association of Business Resources named Argonne
one of the top 40 "Best & Brightest Companies to Work for." This
distinction "is bestowed in honor of an organization's recognition
of their employees as their greatest asset," according to the association.
Argonne's main campus is located about 30 miles west of Chicago in the
city's bustling western suburbs. Inside the laboratory's 1,500 acres,
wildlife co-exists with some of the world's most advanced scientific
research machines. Nearby Chicago is known for its varied museums, music,
sports teams, dining and cultures. The laboratory is close to the city's
two international airports, O'Hare and Midway.
Argonne operates
several smaller offices and research facilities around the world.
