Yazoo Backwater Reformulation Project
Introduction: Welcome to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District’s project website for the Yazoo Backwater Reformulation Study. The Final Report, completed in November, 2007, is a detailed and complex description of the plan the Vicksburg District proposes to use in an effort to help solve the flooding problems in the lower Mississippi Delta. This website was developed to help answer project questions and help separate misinformation from actual project facts. The Report’s public comment period ended January 22, 2008, however, we welcome your input. You may send comments to yazoobackwater@usace.army.mil Project
Update: EPA based its decision on the determination that the Recommended Plan detailed in the Final Report had ‘unacceptable adverse effects on the aquatic ecosystem, particularly to fish and wildlife resources’. The March 19, 2008 document, called the ‘Proposed Determination’, outlines the 404 review process and EPA’s project concerns. For a description of EPA’s process, please visit http://www.epa.gov/404c/ . The Vicksburg District publicly responded to the EPA during their public hearing on April 17th, 2008, in Vicksburg. More detailed responses were submitted to the EPA before their public comment period ended.
