Learn About ACYF Grant Programs

The Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF) is a part of the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), under the Department of Health and Human Services, and is administered by a Commissioner who is a Presidential appointee. ACYF’s offices are responsible for different issues involving children, youth and families. The United States and its territories are divided into 10 geographic regions, each having an office responsible for administering some of ACYF's programs located in that region.

The ACYF Grant Web serves to recruit potential grant application reviewers and provides assistance to current grant application reviewers.

About the Programs

Child Care Bureau/Office of Family Assistance (CCB): Supports low-income working families through child care financial assistance and promotes children’s learning by improving the quality of early care and education, and after-school programs.

Children's Bureau (CB): The CB works with state and local agencies to develop a number of programs that focus on preventing the abuse of children in troubled families, protecting children from abuse, and finding permanent placements for those who cannot safely return to their homes. The CB seeks to provide for the safety, permanency and well being of children through leadership, support for necessary services, and productive partnerships with states, tribes and communities.

Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB): The FYSB promotes positive outcomes for children, youth, and families by supporting a wide range of comprehensive services and collaborations at the local, Tribal, State, and national levels on issues of youth runaway, homelessness, mentoring, abstinence education, and family violence prevention. FYSB programs are designed to provide youth and families with positive alternatives, ensure their safety, and maximize their potential to take advantage of available opportunities.

Office of Head Start (OHS): The OHS oversees Head Start and Early Head Start, which are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. The community-based programs promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.

ACF Student Grant Reviewer Pilot Program

The ACF Student Grant Reviewer Pilot Program is designed to give college undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to review and make recommendations on the award of grant applications for federal funding. Students will serve as a member of a grant review panel of subject matter experts who read the grant applications and prepare formal award recommendation reports. The students will be paid the same compensation received by the subject matter experts. Six pilot schools are participating in the program: American University, Catholic University of America, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University, and University of Maryland.
