Columbia River Between Vancouver, Washington and The Dalles, Oregon

On Columbia River, between Interstate Bridge at Vancouver, WA, 106.5 miles above mouth and The Dalles, OR, mile 191, a distance of 84.5 miles.

At Vancouver, WA, upstream of Interstate Highway bridge at River Mile 108.1 on site of former shipyard are numerous ship-building facilities equipped with railway and river moorage facilities. Also in this area are a paper-storage warehouse with barge slip, two boat building businesses, and a storage dock with gantry crane. Sites are available for development.

At Camas, Wa, about 13.5 miles upstream from Vancouver, there is a private wharf used for transfer of paper-mill supplies and paper to and from barges, and facilities for discharging bulk oils from barges.

At the Dalles is a private elevator with a capacity of 40,000 bushels and a public elevator of 1,113,800-bushel capacity for handling bulk grain to barges. Public elevator has rail, truck, and water connections.

At numerous locations along the entire waterway there are facilities for transfer of logs to water. Facilities are considered adequate for present commerce.

Project Description:

Columbia River:
Channel from Vancouver, Washington to The Dalles, Oregon is 84.5 miles long, 300 feet wide, and 27 feet deep.

Alternate barge Channel:
From Under the wide span of the Interstate 5 Bridge and connecting to the main channel is 7,500 feet long upstream, 300 feet wide, and 10 feet deep.

Extension:
From the Interstate 5 Brige down-stream along the turning basin (the turning basin is part of Columbia and Lower WIllamette project) is 2,200 feet long, 300 feet wide, and 15 feet deep.

Oregon Slough:
Upstream Entrance is 5,800 feet long, 300 feet wide, and 10 feet deep.

Government Island South Channel:
Small boat recreation channel is 7 miles long, 100 feet wide, and 6 feet deep.

Camas, Washington to Washougal, Washington:
A suitable turning basin adjacent to the site of port development exists.

Hood River, Oregon:
The small boat basin is 1,300 feet long, 500 feet wide, and 10 feet deep.
The connecting channel is 10 feet deep.
A breakwater on the easterly side of the boat basin exists.

Bingen, Washington:
The Barge Channel is 1 mile long, 200 feet wide, and 10 feet deep.
An access channel to the small boat basin is 1,000 feet long, 100 feet wide, and 7 feet deep.

The Dalles, Oregon:
Small boat basin with breakwater and shearboom is 800 feet long, 400 feet wide, and 8 feet deep.
