NOTES: This position is located in the Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Intelligence Division, Office of Special Intelligence, Program Support Unit (NSAU), Fairfax, VA. One or more vacancies may be filled from this vacancy announcement.

DUTIES: Assesses the loyalty, reliability, suitability, and trustworthiness of applicants, employees, and others who work with, will work with, or have access to classified information and material.
Performs work concerning classification, declassification, and protection of classified national defense and other sensitive information originated or controlled by Federal agencies.
Performs personnel, physical, and information security work. Establishes criteria for contractor and subcontractor covering such matters as foreign ownership or influence; classification and clearance levels required for contract performance; product classification; need for restricted nuclear data; and access to communication security, intelligence or international organization information.
Monitors contracts to ensure satisfactory progress, compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract, and to identify problems that threaten contractor performance.
Performs work concerned with the physical measures designed to safeguard personnel; to prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, material, and documents; and to safeguard against espionage, sabotage, damage, and theft.
Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders at various levels of government, private industry, and/or universities to communicate and disseminate information about agency mission and activities. Delivers training to security and subject-matter staff on security requirements and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply automated technology to security administration. Knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, methods, and techniques of personnel security.
Knowledge of a wide range of physical security concepts, principles and practices, and a variety of physical security hardware and systems. Knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, methods, and techniques of information security.

MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Qualifying experience for the GS-13 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-12 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: Drug testing is required for this position. All non-DEA applicants must complete a drug use questionnaire when applying for this position. This questionnaire is part of the on-line application process and must be completed before the application can be certified and submitted. Applicants who are found, through investigation or personal admission, to have experimented with or used narcotics or dangerous drugs, except those medically prescribed, will not be considered for employment with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Exceptions to this policy may be made for applicants who admit to limited youthful and experimental use of marijuana. Such applicants may be considered for employment if there is no evidence of regular, confirmed usage, and the full-field background investigation and results of the other steps in the process are otherwise favorable.
