Academic Standards

Academic standards are public statements about what students should know and be able to do.  In the United States, standards are not "standardized." As a result, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Curriculum Content Standards were adapted from the National Curriculum Content Standards to support our mission of providing an exemplary education that inspires and prepares all DoDEA students for success in a dynamic global environment.  To ensure we achieve our goals our education system is based on our academic standards.

Achievement of academic standards is supported by curriculum, instruction, environment, and assessment
  • Our academic standards articulate the higher levels of learning for which our students, teachers, schools, and districts are striving.
  • Classroom instruction and assessments are aligned with our content standards so teachers can ensure that their students will reach their achievement goals.

Our policies, initiatives, curriculum, instruction, and assessments are all aligned with the DoDEA academic standards to give our teachers the tools they need to track student performance and plan focused instruction to meet the specific needs of all students.

The communication and consistent use of standards for planning, instruction, and assessment leads to more focused ways of ensuring that all students meet or exceed the academic standards.
