La Agencia de Protección Ambiental (EPA, por sus siglas en inglés) quiere recordar al público en general sobre la calidad del aire y su impacto a la salud. La EPA exhorta al público a cotejar los anuncios sobre la calidad del aire para poder proteger su salud este verano.

Los anuncios sobre la calidad del aire son emitidos todos los días en todos los estados y gobiernos locales y están basados en el Índice de Calidad de Aire.

El Índice de Calidad de Aire es una escala muy simple a base de un código de colores que describe la calidad de aire de la comunidad, permitiendo a las personas tomar acción para reducir su exposición a la contaminación.

El rango de la escala de colores es de verde, que significa bueno, hasta marrón, el cual quiere decir condiciones de calidad de aire peligrosas.

Esta información está disponible para ozono, el cual ocurre durante el verano, y para la materia particulada, que ocurre todo el año.

El reducir la exposición puede ser tan fácil como reducir la intensidad de las actividades al exterior como la jardinería o deportes, o adaptar el horario de dicha actividad para cuando la calidad del aire sea mejor.
