The office was created by statute in 1981 and is governed by the Missouri Prosecutor Coordinator's Training Council as set forth in Section 56.760, RSMo. The office maintains programs and services as outlined in sections 56.750 to 56.775, RSMo. Generally, these responsibilities include providing legal research assistance to prosecutors; disseminating a monthly newsletter containing indexes and digests of the decisions of courts and other legal authorities; preparing and distributing model complaints, information, indictments, instructions, search warrants and other appropriate documents; preparing and distributing a prosecutor's casebook, formbook and other educational materials; and providing other assistance necessary to implement the statutes.
The Missouri Office of Prosecution Services provides numerous training conferences for prosecutors and serves as the principal provider of continuing legal education for prosecuting attorneys. This includes two yearly statewide training conferences for prosecutors, investigators, support staff, child support prosecutors and victim service providers. The office provides additional specialized training conferences in DWI cases, vehicular homicides and trial school.
The Missouri Office of Prosecution Services also provides support and training in the area of Criminal History Reporting, both through manual efforts as well as automated case management systems.
