Welcome

Thank you for visiting my website and reviewing my privacy policy. I am committed to safeguarding the privacy of your personal information while you are visiting my website.

My basic Internet privacy policy is simple: My website collects no personal information about you unless you choose to provide that information so that I can contact you about an issue you have raised or help you with a problem.

My office tabulates comments received through my website concerning legislation and government policy issues so that I will be fully informed about the views of my constituents. From time to time, a comment made by a constituent or a situation described by a constituent in an e-mail message makes an excellent point on a particular topic. In these cases, I may refer to these messages in a speech or include them in the Congressional Record or make some other use of them, either in connection with debate in the Senate or by sharing them with the relevant government agency.

My staff makes every effort in such cases to contact the author first. If you intend your message to be confidential and prefer that it not be used in such a way, please feel free to advise me of your preference in the message. This will enable me to respect your wishes and see that your views are held entirely within my office. I will not disclose your name or other personal information without notification of your consent.

The following discloses the information gathering and dissemination practices for my website:

Information Collected and Stored Automatically

The United States Senate collects aggregate data about visits to Senate websites, such as statistics that show which parts of each website were visited the most. The following information is also collected when you visit any United States Senate website:

1. The domain from which you accessed the Senate website;

2. The date and time of your visit;

3. The address of the website, if any, that provided the link from which you reached the Senate site.

This information is gathered only for the purpose of enabling us to improve the online service provided to visitors to Senate websites.

No individual identifying or personal information (such as your name) is automatically gathered when you visit any Senate web site. My website does not use “cookies” or other means to track your visit to my site in any way.

Registration Forms

My website registration forms require users to provide contact information (such as name, e-mail, and postal address).

Contact information from the registration forms is used to correspond with my constituents from Nevada and other Internet visitors.

Users may opt out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.

Surveys

Our online surveys ask visitors for demographic information (for example: zip code). Demographic and profile data are also collected at my site. My office uses this data to tailor our visitors’ experiences at our site, showing them content that we think they might be interested in and displaying the content according to their preferences.

External Links

My web site has links to other useful sites on the Internet, including sites of other government agencies and sites relating to Nevada. If you follow any link that takes you to a location that does not include “senate.gov” in the address, you will have left the Senate web server and you will need to refer to that site's own privacy policy.

Public Forums

This site makes chat rooms, forums, and/or news groups available to its users. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.

Security

This site has security measures in place to prevent the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. All information is passed to our server through the Senate firewall.

We use this information to monitor the amount of traffic we get, what software is most commonly used, and where the traffic we are receiving comes from. This information is gathered to better this site and make it more useful to visitors.

We will not use information collected from your visit to identify you personally except in the following instances:

1.  When you are requesting help with a casework matter. It may be necessary to share the information you provide with the government agency from which you are requesting assistance so that the agency is able to respond to your request.

2.   In the course of an authorized law enforcement investigation or emergency posing an imminent risk to public safety.

3.  When unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this server are made. This act is strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.

4.   When threatening e-mail is sent.
