Good Golly, a Visit From Holly!
Posted on: November 6th, 2007 by Matt Raymond
Holly Morris of Fox-5 (WTTG) is traveling the greater Washington, D.C., area this week, leaving clues as to where she will next turn up on the Fox 5 Morning News.
Yesterday it was a cave in West Virginia, but today it was drum roll, please the Library of Congress!
You can check out the video for yourself here. (The main two segments are in the SideBar next to the video window.) Highlights include an interview with Librarian of Congress James H. Billington, and a behind-the-scenes look at our book-distribution systems.
Can you guess Hollys next destination?

Is this post– a local Fox station promotion– a legitimate use of our tax dollars?
November 6th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
I do not expect to be spammed by the Libarary of Congress; why are you promoting a local member of the Fox News family? And were my tax dollars involved in this? If so, shame on you.

Jarrod, it is part of my taxpayer-funded job to ensure the media’s (and the public’s) access to the Library. We don’t play favorites.
I don’t think linking to their coverage of the Library is “promoting” them any more than any other links I provide to the news coverage we get.

An essence of blogging is to link widely and with relevance.
Media coverage of the LOC is certainly within the remit of Matt and this blog - so let “Light and liberty go together.”
A free press is one of the foundations of your liberty, is it not?
So give Matt a break.
Dr. Billington’s elevator speech, “… the reading room is meant to be the link betweenthe American people as a whole and the treasures that have been stored up … ”
Pretty good message to get out there, I think.
Maybe one day I’ll be able to visit in person.
Mr. Comstock - How are you spammed? Surely you can remove this blog from your feed reader or subscription list if it is supplying you with unwanted content.

Jarrod, As someone who works in the print media I’d like to say its extremely difficult to generate any good publicity in the current media environment. If Fox wants to show up great. The library did not need to organize a special event for this coverage, very cost affective.

Its funny how politics and media need each other in numerous ways yet the two are incompatible in many others!
Can’t live them can’t live without them.

Lol, promotion for Fox 5 :).

It is hard to create good positive media. Mark Cuban just spoke about this recently in his blog last month. Everything gets spinned and taken out of context.

Promoting Fox stations!

I agree. I don’t think linking to Library coverage is promoting them. That is the way it works. Links are presented and if we are interested, we’ll click.
