National Geospatial Program: Roles and Activities
- The NGP provides leadership and guidance for key NSDI and geospatial community stakeholders:
- Facilitates policy development
- Provides incentives
- Facilitates the development of key standards and data models
- Coordinates and facilitates the governance structure for the NSDI
- Negotiates collaborative agreements with stakeholders
- Facilitates the development of a national Geospatial Enterprise Architecture
- Provides a forum for technology transfer, best practices, and program guidance
- The NGP implements key components of the NSDI:
- Produces map products
- Hosts spatial datasets, websites, knowledge base, and tools for discovery and access
- Data integration and quality assurance of spatial data
- Staff enterprise architecture, governance body, and spatial operations
- Conducts and sponsors research for geospatial information science
- Contract management
- Training, education, and consultation
- Data producer of last resort
