Rural Development Programs in the areas of business and industrial
development, community facilities, multi-family and single- family housing,
and water and waste disposal are operated through Rural Development state
and local offices.
USDA Rural Development is part of the Department of Agriculture which was
restructured from the old Farmers Home Administration in 1995. The new Rural
Development mission area provides for three separate, but closely related
services, including Rural Housing Service, Rural Utilities Service, and
Rural Business-Cooperative Service.
Farm lending, which was administered by our predecessor agency--Farmers Home
Administration (FmHA) -- is now under the USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA).
