Energy Efficiency for Oregon Industry
In recent years, Oregon industry has led the nation in the rate of manufacturing growth. In 1999, industry accounted for 88 percent of Oregon´s $109 billion dollar-a-year economy. In 1999 some 7,175 manufacturers report they employ over 242,000 Oregonians with a payroll alone totaling nearly 10 percent of the state gross product. According to Oregon Department of Economic and Community Development, manufacturing employment indirectly accounts for four additional service sector employees for each direct-hire employee.

In 1999, Oregon´s industries consumed 31 percent of all energy used in the state. This is the single largest energy use segment. Transportation accounts for 28 percent of the total 1999 energy use. In that same year, commercial and residential buildings used 19 and 21 percent of energy in Oregon respectively.

Because industry plays such a large part in the states energy and economic resources, the Oregon Department of Energy provides these web pages to assist industry to improve efficiency and productivity. Office technical staff are available to provide independent third party review of an industries energy policy, technologies under consideration or specific energy efficiency projects.  Referral to other providers with the expertise to meet the various  needs of industry is also available.
