10/16/2008 Boswell Applauds Bush for Signing Code Talkers Bill Into Law Contact: Susan McAvoy 202-226-7694 susan.mcavoy@mail.house.gov Washington, DC -- Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell issued the following statement after President Bush signed H.R. 4544, the Code Talkers Recognition Act into law: “Four years ago I began working with my colleagues in Congress to find ways to recognize the Meskawki code talkers. Today, I’m so proud to see this effort come to fruition. The Meskwaki code talkers, among other code talkers, are credited with saving the lives of countless members of the United States Armed Forces and contributing significantly to the victory of our nation during WWI and WW II. Eight of those men who will be honored under this law were members of the Meskwaki tribe. By signing this bill into law, every code talker will now be recognized with a Congressional Gold Medal for their tribe and individually with a silver medal duplicate. These men are finally being recognized for their significant contribution to our nation.” |
