State Department eases restrictions for travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean through September 30, 2007 Due to longer than expected processing times, U.S. citizens who have applied for but not yet received passports may travel to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda under the following conditions through September 30, 2007: Adults should present government-issued photo identification and official proof of application from the U.S. Department of State. Children under the age of 16 traveling with their parents or legal guardian will be permitted to travel with the child's proof of application. Travelers who have not applied for a passport will not be accommodated. To print official proof of application simply visit http://travel.state.gov. As of October 1, 2007, U.S. Department of State will again require all U.S. citizens to have passports for air travel to Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. The new regulations extend to land and sea travel on January 1, 2008. No passport is needed for citizens traveling to or from U.S. territories, including American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Swains Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. For more information, please visit the Homeland Security website. If you are planning to travel outside of the Western Hemisphere, please apply for your passport as soon as possible.
