Congresswoman Giffords rises in support of her bill, the Employee Verification Amendment Act (H.R. 6633) that would extend E-Verify for five years. Giffords stated, “By re-authorizing E-Verify for five years instead of 10, we can move to a federal mandatory system more quickly. Within five years or less, the federal government MUST develop a mandatory system that operates uniformly across all 50 states. This is critical to fixing our broken immigration system.”
H.R. 6633 also includes studies into how E-verify impacts small businesses and accurately confirms workers’ legality, and requires DHS to provide timely and appropriate payments to Social Security.
As a member of the House Committee on Science and Technology, Congresswoman Giffords questions a panel, including former Senator John Glenn, about STEM education. The hearing was called, "NASA at 50: Past Accomplishments and Future Opportunities and Challenges."
Congresswoman Giffords introduces the Diesel Tax Parity Act which would reduce the tax from 24.3 cents per gallon to 18.3 cents per gallon, the same amount as the current federal tax on gasoline.
Congresswoman Giffords rises in support of H.R. 6515, the Drill Responsibly in Leased Lands or DRILL Act which will require oil and gas companies to start using their federal leases both onshore and offshore. "To bring down the cost of oil, we must force Big Oil to increase its production. That means drilling on the 68 million acres of federal land already under Big Oil’s control," Giffords said.
