The National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program's Cook
Inlet Basin study unit is an integrated water-quality assess-
ment designed to address a broad array of water-quality proper-
ties at various spatial and temporal scales. These properties
are then related to natural and human factors that can influence
the quality of water. South Fork Campbell Creek, located in
central part of the Cook Inlet Basin is one of 15 sites selected
for study.
The purpose of this data set is to give the Cook Inlet NAWQA study unit the information needed to do basic spatial analysis for a given watershed within the Cook Inlet Basin. Hydrography of South Fork Campbell Creek near Anchorage that is entered into a Geographic Information System (GIS) can be used to determine hydrologic features such as number and percent of lakes in a basin. In turn, these characteristics can than be used as input to hydrologic runoff models or regression equations to estimate water quality parameters such as annual suspended-sediment loads.

The quadrangles were then edgematched and joined to form a single coverage. Using the basin boundary of South Fork Campbell Creek near Anchorage and the ARC/INFO CLIP command, the hydrography of South Fork Campbell Creek was created. Polygon topology was then created and labels added. The attribute WATBOD was used to distinguish glaciers, lakes, and gravel bars. A value of 1 indicates a lake, a value of 2 indicates a glacier, and a value of 3 indicates a gravel bar.
