EPA works with a variety of agencies to acquire green power for its facilities, including the Defense Energy Support Center , General Services Administration, and the Western Area Power Administration. EPA receives technical assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program and National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and through the EPA Green Power Partnership.
In 2001, EPA created the Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program that encourages private and public organizations to buy green power. The Partnership includes organizations that have reached renewable power goals based on their energy consumption. The Green Power Leadership Club distinguishes those who have achieved at least quadruple the baseline goals. Providing a model for other organizations interested in green power, EPA is a member of the Leadership Club.
EPA's Green Power Purchase Program was awarded a 2004 Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management . View the award nomination, EPA's Green Power Purchase Program: Progress through Partnership (PDF) (11 pages, 102 Kb, About PDF).
