Our Goal: Sustainability

Achieving sustainable solutions calls for stewardship, with everyone taking responsibility for solving the environmental problems of today and tomorrow. Individuals, communities, businesses and governments are all

stewards of the environment. We work with our partners, including research institutions, community groups and local governments, to develop and promote sustainability resources. Our emphasis is to find cross-cutting solutions through voluntary programs that improve sustainability and quality of life within New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Green Living

We can make everyday choices to promote sustainability such as buying natural cleaning products, recycling used electronics, and eating sustainable food. With simple strategies, we can all be environmental stewards. Explore environmental data in your community and in New York City, view maps of community parks. Exit EPA disclaimer

Green Workplaces

In your business, you can use environmental management systems (EMS) to increase resource efficiency and implement green meeting strategies. Business owners can also demonstrate leadership in their field through Performance Track, an EPA sponsored program and innovative partnership that recognizes top environmental performance among participating U.S. facilities, or National Partnership for Environmental Priorities, a program to reduce priority chemicals. Businesses have many opportunities to promote sustainability in their operations, manufacturing, services and in the buildings they occupy.

Green Buildings

We spend most of our lives indoors. Whether at home or in our place of work, green buildings improve our health and environment. For many businesses, personnel costs are the single greatest expense. Green buildings strategies, like daylighting, reduce absenteeism and improve worker productivity.

Green Communities

More and more community leaders and citizens are re-thinking how local systems operate and realizing the environmental, financial and community health benefits of creating a more sustainable future for their citizens. We can embrace sustainability strategies in our communities through Waste Management, Planning and Open Spaces, Energy, Water Management, Transportation and Schools.
