About Our Name
Booz Allen Hamilton takes its name from our three founding partners, Edwin Booz, James Allen, and Carl Hamilton. In 2001, we updated the firm's name worldwide, dropping the punctuation between the founder's names (previously, there had been a dot between Booz·Allen and an ampersand between Allen & Hamilton, so older references to the firm's name typically read Booz·Allen & Hamilton).
Our logotype, as shown in the upper left corner of our web pages, contains vertical bars between the founder's name; however, in text we use only spaces. The correct name of our global firm is Booz Allen Hamilton, and the short form of Booz Allen is also commonly used.
In July 2008, Booz Allen Hamilton separated its two major core businesses—U.S. government consulting and commercial management consulting—into two companies, Booz Allen Hamilton and Booz & Company, respectively.
