Latin American and Caribbean HIV/AIDS Initiative

The U.S. Agency for International Development is dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS in Latin America and the Caribbean. With an annual budget of $44.7 million in fiscal year 2003, this region remains a high priority in the fight against this global pandemic. USAID operates HIV/AIDS programs in the following countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru. Haiti and Guyana are focus countries under President Bush’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. In addition, two regional programs—in the Caribbean and Central America—provide HIV/AIDS resources in the region.
