Prevention activities are designed to slow, and ultimately reverse, rising HIV infection rates so that fewer people will suffer the dire consequences of AIDS. USAID's programs include the "ABC" approach to HIV/AIDS prevention - abstinence, being faithful, and condom use - prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, injection safety, and HIV counseling and testing.
