Almost half of all new HIV infections
in developing countries are among 15- to 24-year-olds. Girls
are particularly vulnerable. USAID activities are using media
campaigns, peer counseling, life skills training, and interventions
for youth in particularly vulnerable circumstances to reach
youth with prevention messages and help them develop the skills
necessary to protect themselves. Learn

In a country where 84 percent
of young people have had sex by the age of 19 and
approximately one in six of urban youth are HIV-positive,
the HEART (Helping Each Other Act Responsibly Together)
program is helping young Zambians steer clear of
HIV/AIDS.

to be Infected with HIV in the Next Year
The majority of Namibian youth believe that they will
ultimately get the virus that causes AIDS. This is despite
high levels of knowledge and awareness about HIV and
AIDS and other health issues, according to research from
the University of Namibia (UNAM) and USAID.

This program will improve reproductive
health and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among people
10 to 24 years old. It is a collaboration with young people,
parents, schools, employers, policymakers, health professionals,
and faith-based programs and community leaders.
- AIDS Hotline Reaches Youth in Jordan [PDF, 1.2MB]
A hotline has been established to provide anonymous counseling for Jordan's youth. Approximately 50 percent of AIDS cases in Jordan are among young people, ages 15 to 34.
