The Jameson Island unit occupies a large bend of the Missouri River floodplain in Saline County, below the historic community of Arrow Rock. The unit consists of 1,871 acres of bottom land forest of cottonwood, willow, box elder, and other floodplain species. This unit is south of and across the river from the Lisbon unit. The two units are similar and combined provide 4,000 acres of public land for hunting, fishing, and exploring.
Lewis and Clark Trail of Discovery - Arrow Rock Landing Trail
One way to enjoy the Jameson Island unit is to hike the Lewis and Clark Trail of Discovery, and the Arrow Rock Landing Trail. These all-weather connected trails provide one mile easy hiking from the parking lot and town of Arrow Rock down to the Missouri River. (See maps) Interpretive signs along the way help the visitor learn more about the refuge and history of the area.

For the more dedicated explorer the interior of the Jameson Island unit has some unique areas.
The Army Corps of Engineers started a side channel construction project here in 2006. The dirt access road to the project area provides hiking only access into the interior of this unit. Use caution around any construction and at times the area may be closed to public entry, or flooded with water depending on the river level.

Visitors to this unit of the refuge should take time to enjoy the historic community of Arrow Rock and Arrow Rock State Historic Site. You can even catch a live show at the Lyceum Theater. After spending the day enjoying all that Arrow Rock has to offer, unwind with a hike on the refuge trails.
Getting to the Jameson Island Unit
Take Main Street through Arrow Rock. Turn left uphill when Main Street ends at a sign explaining Godsey's Diggings. Follow this road as it turns left around the back of the Lyceum Theater. Look for the gravel road and refuge sign on the right directly behind the theater. Follow this road downhill 1/4 mile to the refuge parking lot and information kiosk, the last two hundred feet of the road may be rough. The parking area is small and has no turn around area available for trailers.
