Voluntary Programs

33/50 - No longer implemented since successfully meeting its goal and reducing emissions from 17 chemicals by more than 750,000,000 pounds by the end of 1995.  Adopt Your Watershed - Encourages and facilitates citizen involvement in local watershed protection activities.
AgStar - Promotes cost-effective methods for reducing methane emissions at dairy and swine operations through improved manure management. Coalbed Methane Outreach - Encourages profitable recovery and use of methane liberated from coal mines by helping identify viable technologies, markets and finance sources.
Common Sense Initiative - CSI represents a new approach for EPA in creating policies and environmental management solutions that relate to industry sectors. Consumer Labeling Initiative - Makes health, safety, and environmental information on household product labels easier for people to find, read, understand and use, and encourages people to "Read the Label First!" before buying, using or disposing of products.
Design for the Environment - Helps business incorporate environmental considerations into the design of products, processes, and technical management systems. Energy Star Buildings - ENERGY STAR Buildings offers a comprehensive action  plan to help you plan, implement, and communicate whole-building efficiency improvements for your organization. 
Energy Star Labeling - Mazimize energy efficiency in office equipment and household appliances through product design and practices. Energy Star Residential - Promotes partnerships with home builders to construct highly efficient new homes.
Environmental Accounting - Increases business understanding of environmental costs and incorporation of these costs into routine operations. Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Program - A federal-wide program that encourages and assists Executive agencies to purchase environmentally preferable products and services.
Environmental Technology Verification - Accelerates the entrance of new environmental technologies into the marketplace by verifying the performance of innovative technologies to problems that threaten human health or the environment. Green Chemistry - Promotes the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.
Green Lights (Now incorporated into Energy Star) - The Green Lights Program is aimed at promoting energy efficiency through investment in energy-saving lighting.  Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E) - H2E is a joint project of the American Hospital Association, the Environmental  Protection Agency, Health Care Without Harm, and the American Nurses Association.  The primary goal of the H2E effort is to educate health care professionals about pollution prevention opportunities in hospitals and healthcare systems.
Indoor Air Quality - Promotes simple, low-cost methods for reducing indoor air quality risks. Landfill Methane Outreach - Reduces methane emissions from landfills by installing products to capture gases and produce electricity, steam or boiler fuel.
Natural Gas STAR - Encourages natural gas industry to reduce leaks through cost-effective best management practices. National Environmental Performance Track - A program designed for facilities to recognize and encourage top environmental performers.
National Partnership for Environmental Priorities - The National Partnership for Environmental Priorities Program (NPEP) encourages public and private organizations to form voluntary partnerships with EPA that reduce the use or release of any of 31 Priority Chemicals.

Pesticide Environmental Stewardship - Exit EPA Click for Disclaimer Promotes integrated pest management and reduces pesticide risk in agricultural and nonagricultural settings.
PrintSTEP - The goal of PrintSTEP (Printers' Simplified Total Environmental Partnership) is to help the printing industry and the public achieve cleaner, cheaper, and smarter environmental protection through the creation of a simpler regulatory "framework". Ruminant Livestock Methane - Reduces methane emissions from ruminant livestock operations.
Strategic Goals Program for Metal Finishers - The National SGP is a voluntary program that encourages companies to go beyond environmental compliance. SGP member companies are offered incentives, resources and a means for removing regulatory and policy barriers as they work to achieve specific environmental goals. Waste Minimization National Plan - Reduces persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic chemicals in hazardous waste.
WasteWi$e - Reduces business and solid waste through prevention, reuse and recycling and purchasing goods made from recycled materials. Water Alliances for Voluntary Efficiency (WAVE) - Promotes water efficiency in hotels, schools, universities and office buildings.
