Forging strong partnerships is an important aspect of EPA's enforcement and compliance assurance program. States and tribes play a crucial role in the implementation of our nation's environmental laws and regulations. Strengthening these relationships through improved coordination, joint work planning and specialized assistance will promote greater compliance. One key partnership with states involves work planning and support through cooperative agreements, referred to as State and Tribal Assistance Grants (STAG).
The enforcement and compliance assurance program manages several grant programs that directly aid and assist states and tribes in implementing their compliance and enforcement programs.
-
The Multimedia STAG program provides grant funds to states, tribes, inter-tribal consortia, territories and multi-jurisdictional organizations to help build capacity in implementing our nation's environmental laws and regulations.
-
The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act STAG program annually provides funds through cooperative agreements to states and tribes for pesticide compliance and enforcement activities.
-
The Toxic Substances Control Act STAG program annually awards states, territories and tribes funds to conduct inspections for compliance with the PCB regulations, the asbestos-in-schools requirements, worker protection standards, and authorized state sections 402 and 406 lead-based paint requirements
EPA complaince and enforcement program also provides financial assistance to eligible affected local community-based organizations working on or planning to work on projects to address local environmental and/or public health concerns through Environmental Justice Grant program.
