Grants & Funding

EPA Resources

The following provides links to several EPA programs that provide grants or that help stakeholders find funding or other forms of financial assistance:

Brownfields Program offers assessment, cleanup, job training, and related grants to facilitate brownfields cleanup and redevelopment, including assistance for sites with petroleum contamination.

Brownfields Tax Incentive encourages brownfields redevelopment by allowing cleanup costs to be fully deducted in the year they are incurred rather than having to be capitalized over time.

Superfund Technical Assistance Grants (TAGs) provide up to $50,000 to communities to address technical issues relating to the cleanup and reuse of Superfund sites.

EPA's 10 Regional Offices are responsible for administering agency programs at the state and local level. From each Region's home page, you can link to information about technical assistance and resources available to support site revitalization and reuse.

Wetlands & Streams Five Star Restoration Program
offers modest grants to enable community-based wetlands restoration projects.

Smart Growth Program
provides information on numerous EPA, other federal, private, and nonprofit funding sources for land reuse and preservation. Projects fall into one of seven categories: General, Brownfields, Open Space and Farmland Preservation, Water Quality, Smart Growth and Rural Native American Communities, Transportation, and Private Foundations.

Environmental Finance Program helps stakeholders find funding for environmental programs, including the productive reuse of contaminated sites.

Guidebook of Financial Tools This guidebook is intended to be a working tool to enable practitioners in the public and private sector to find the appropriate methods to pay for environmental protection efforts.

Environmental Financing Information Network (EFIN) - The purpose of the Environmental Financing Information Network is to provide information on financing alternatives for state and local environmental programs and small businesses.
