Transportation Safety Planning

Transportation Safety Planning Seminar

Course length: 2 hours to 1-day depending on audience needs.

Transportation Safety Planning is a comprehensive, system-wide, multimodal, proactive process to better integrate safety into transportation planning and transportation decision-making. The Resource Center Planning Team provides technical assistance to customers in this area, focusing on the successful integration of safety within the traditional planning processes.

SAFETEA-LU includes the safety planning requirement that each statewide and metropolitan planning process shall provide for consideration of projects and strategies that will increase the safety of the transportation system for motorized and non-motorized users. To successfully move forward, practical examples of how safety can be fully integrated with the transportation planning process are now needed.
