Every year during Kid's Fishing Day, hundreds of children and dozens of volunteers head to the Bass Ponds. Many of the youngsters catch their first fish there. Enthusiasm and smiles reward the volunteers. For the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, fishing builds connections to the natural world.
GENERAL INFORMATION
We recommend you practice catch-and-release fishing on the Refuge because every lake, marsh, and creek is impacted by storm sewers and agricultural runoff. Please consult Minnesota State Health Department guidelines before eating any species. Call 651.215.0950 for a copy of their fish consumption advisory booklet.
Unless posted with an 'Area Closed' sign, bank fishing is permitted throughout the Refuge in accordance with Minnesota State Regulations. Boats are not allowed on Refuge waters except for waterfowl hunting and trapping. No motorized boats.
Fishing on the Refuge is allowed daylight hours only, except bank fishing on the Minnesota River is permitted 24 hours daily. Boat launches and direct access points to the Minnesota River are also open for fishing and boating access 24 hours a day.
