The Commercial Service in Montreal has for many years offered challenging and rewarding internships for Canadian and American Undergraduate and Graduate students currently enrolled in a university program specializing in international business, economics and marketing. Strong business analysis, excellent writing, and communication skills are a must. French is an asset.

The intern will work closely with a commercial specialist conducting market research and drafting reports based on timely market information or comprehensive analysis of a particular industry sector in Canada. The intern will assist with trade development and promotion activities associated with international partner searches, trade missions, trade events and trade shows. Some of these tasks involve arranging meetings with agents, distributors, and joint venture partners for U.S. companies. The intern will also answer general trade inquiries from American companies requesting information on doing business in Canada and Canadian companies seeking American products and services.

Internships are available throughout the year, without any prescribed duration, although the typical internship runs for approximately fifteen weeks. The internships are unpaid, and interns must provide for their own needs (housing, travel expenses, health insurance, etc.) while in Montreal. Depending on the university's departmental procedures, the intern may have the option of earning academic credit.

Benefits of the Internship:
Gain valuable on-the-job experience; improve verbal and written business communication skills; increase professional contacts (Canadian and American); enhance resume and open doors to future career opportunities.
