African American Museum in Philadelphia

To support an exhibition Arts of ODUNDE and related costs. The
exhibition will be a celebration of ODUNDE's 30 years of success as a
grassroots organization that sponsors a major yearly festival and promotes
cultural preservation and community-based folk arts education.
Anjani's Kathak Dance of India (Sundar Kala Kendra Foundation)
Walnut, CA

To support the creation of a new work titled Amrapali-Raj Narthaki,
the story about a famous court dancer during the Buddha period in India.
Featuring the classical Kathak dance style, this is the first production
of this work in the greater Los Angeles area.

To support a concert tour of South Indian bharata natyam music and dance.
The tour will feature dancer Aniruddha Knight of the T. Balasaraswati
family, regarded in India and the United States as one of the most distinguished
performers of this traditional art form.

To support the consortium project Deaf Jam: The Poetry Dialogues. In partnership
with the Teachers and Writers Collaborative, Deaf Jam will highlight the
beauty and expressiveness of American Sign Language (ASL) by giving deaf
teenagers a chance to express themselves in ASL poetry.

To support field documentation using the state's network of Community
Scholars and master traditional artists brought together through the South
Carolina Folk Heritage Awards and the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship
Initiative. All documentation will be used for broadcast on the Your Day
radio program, broadcast on the South Carolina Radio Network.

To support the creation of a new work, Seasons of Migration.
The project will explore the expressive boundaries of Cambodia's classical
dance by making contemporary ideas feel timeless and by making the ancient
feel utterly modern.

To support the Traditional Music Series. The program is designed to showcase
local traditional musicians at the AcousticSeen Theatre in downtown Greenville,
and Folk Heritage Awards winners from North and South Carolina at local
festivals.

To support the consortium project World Festival of Sacred Music-Los Angeles.
Collaborating with the UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance, the
festival encourages participants to travel throughout Los Angeles, crossing
not only neighborhood borders but also cultural, racial, religious, and
ideological boundaries.

National Folk Festival. The festival will showcase local heritage while
providing access to high-quality performances and traditional culture.

To support a consortium project for the 18th Annual Folk Alliance Conference.
In collaboration with the Texas Music Hall of Fame, the conference will
introduce and showcase a wide range of Texas folk musicians to the membership
which consists of performing arts presenters, festival bookers, marketing
and public relations specialists, and record label representatives.

To support the 2005 Midwest Folklife Festival. The festival will feature
folk and ethnic artists from Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois in
concerts, demonstrations, and narrative stage presentations.
International Accordion Festival

To support the 5th Annual International Accordion Festival. The festival
is designed to celebrate the instrument's local identity and global reach;
preserve and present accordion music of ethnic, regional, and national
cultures; and educate audiences about accordian-based traditions.
Jubilee Community Arts, Inc.

To support live presentations, broadcasts, and documentation of traditional
music. The project will include a series of weekly concerts, performances
at the Jubilee Festial, programs focusing on the traditional music of
the southern Appalachian region, and research and documentation of traditional
artists in east Tennessee.

To support the implementation of a Mariachi Appreciation Program. Young
people ages 9 to 18 will attend workshops taught by professionals on the
theory, musical technique, history, and culture associated with this Mexican
musical tradition.

To support a cultural coordinator position and related costs. The coordinator
will oversee the artistic development of the Center's cultural troupe,
increase outreach, recruit new program participants and volunteers, and
maintain and develop current projects for the program.

To support the 2005 Great Lake Folk Festival. The festival will showcase
the traditional cultural treasures of the Upper Midwest and provide a
sampling of the best of traditional artists from around the country and

To support a consortium project for a folklorist-in-training program.
In partnership with Community Works, interns between the ages of 12 and
18 will be recruited and trained to identify, document, and present folk
artists and tradition bearers found in the predominantly Africa American,
Caribean, and Latino neighborhoods of the Bronx.

To support the creation of the Bluegrass Review radio program. The program
will consist of recorded performances, commentary and interviews, and
workshops for broadcast students at Minneapolis North High School.

To support the 28th Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival. The festival shares
the beauty and artistry of the hula, while including authentic Hawaiian
demonstrations and exhibits, in an effort to educate and perpetuate the

To support the presentation of regional, traditional art forms of the
Pacific Northwest at the 2005 Northwest Folklife Festival. The project
will feature recipients of apprenticeship grants, heritage awards, and
National Heritage Fellows from the states of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and
Washington.

To support Art Happens Here. The project will document and present Philadelphia
folk artists and their works to audiences in the region through artist
residencies and community festival performances.

To support a consortium project for the continuation of the Mambo to Hip
Hop Initiative. In collaboration with Public Art Films, the project will
include field research, a stage performance titled Hip Hop Roots/Boricua
Flavor, and completion of the documentary film From Mambo to
Hip Hop: Music and Survival in the South Bronx.

To support the creation of a new work titled Drum Voices. The
projet is a ground-breaking collaboration between 1996 Natinal Heritage
Fellow, African drummer Obo Addy and Asian drumming ensemble Portland
Taiko.
Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance, Inc.

To support the Folklore of Loíza music and dance workshops celebrating
the West African heritage of this community in Puerto Rico. The workshops,
led by William Cepada will culminate in a series of concerts.

will focus on the heritage of the Eastern Woodland Native Americans and

Commission on the Arts, the project will consist of residencies in underserved
towns with populations of fewer than 10,000 people.

will focus on Beijing, Chinese, and Shaoxing styles of Chinese opera.

As an independent video artist, Woodward has documented foodways traditions,

theme Aross the Generations will pair ten artists under the age of 30
with five senior mentors as part of an effort to engage younger people
in the practice and perpetuation of the verbal and material arts of ranching

To support It Is Never Too Late to Learn at the second annual conference
on Arts, Curriculum, and Community. In collaoration with the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, the conference will include nationally known keynote
speakers, workshops on quilting, ethnic storytelling, and a curriculum

of traditional music and dance from venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico,

catalogue. The exhibit will include information on the Hispanic immigration
to Washington, Hispanic traditional arts and their significance to the
