The National Water Commission (Comision Nacional del Agua- CONAGUA) has indicated that the National Infrastructure Program for 2007-2012 calls for several international tenders during 2008-2011 to invite companies to bid on the construction of a potable water plants, municipal wastewater treatment plants and sewage systems for several municipalities in the State of Mexico and Mexico City. The total project will be financed by BANOBRAS (Mexico’s Public Works Bank) and CONAGUA. International tenders are expected to be published during the third and fourth quarters of 2008, and during 2009 and 2011.  The estimated budget for the project is USD 3 billion. Solid waste landfill closure, Mexico City

The Mexico City government has indicated that the closure of the city’s only solid waste landfill called “Bordo Poniente” will be a priority during 2008.  The landfill started operations in 1985, receives over 12,500 tons per day, has accumulated solid waste of over 60 million tons that reach over 12 meters high. The total project will be financed by BANOBRAS (Mexico’s Public Works Bank) and the Mexican Treasury Department (thru the Mexico City government).  International tenders are expected as well as direct assignments. Cleaning of the Apatlaco River, State of Morelos
