Getting Started with PORTS

PTFP Online Reporting and Tracking System

Getting started with PORTS is a two-step process.

First - Register You must register with PORTS before you can use the system.

Then - Add Grants To use PORTS after you are registered, you must be assigned to one or more PTFP grants. Each PTFP grant, however, is assigned to only one PORTS user.
  To Register

   1. Go to the PORTS Login page www.ntia.doc.gov/ptfp/ports.

  2. On the Login page, click New User? Click to Register.

  3. Enter/confirm user information.

If you just received a PTFP grant, to speed the registration process, PTFP sent a letter to the official project contact which contained an Authorization Code. If you received a letter from PTFP with Authorization Codes for your grant(s), you will just need to confirm information already on file at PTFP. Using an Authorization Code will speed your ability to work with the new grant. Without an Authorization Code, you will have to wait for approval before you access the new grant. You will be notified by email when your registration is approved

On the PTFP Registration page, enter and confirm your email address, then enter the last five digits of the grant number and the corresponding Authorization Code from the letter PTFP sent you. The Authorization Code is case sensitive.

If do not have the Authorization Code for a grant, enter the last five digits of any of your organization’s PTFP grants, then go to step 4b.

If you do not have an Authorization Code or the last five digits of a grant, you may still register by entering additional information at step 4b.

4a. After you enter a grant number and Authorization Code, the Verify Profile Information page will display information in your user profile which was transferred from the grant application. To enter corrections, click My Profile Needs Updating. When you are finished, click My Profile is Correct (or Submit), then go to step 5.

If you entered the Authorization Code for a grant assigned to another person, the user profile of the other person will appear. Click If you are not (other person's name), Click here (item A on the example below), The Edit Profile page will appear. (It looks similar to the Verify Profile page.) Enter the required information and click Submit.

If your name is misspelled or changed due to marriage or divorce, click the area shown as B on the example below and then complete the Name Change Request page.

4b. If you entered a Grant Number without an Authorization Code, the Edit Profile page will appear. (It looks similar to the Verify Information Profile page shown.) Enter the required information and click Submit.

If you did not enter either a Grant Number or Authorization Code, you must select your organization from the list of organizations already registered with PTFP, and enter your personal information.

  5. You must then select a password of at least 8 characters, including a number and a non-alphanumeric character. (In order to protect PORTS security, you will need to change your password after 3 months).

If you registered using an Authorization Code, you will be linked to your grant. PORTS will also automatically take you to the Add Grants page so you can link to other PTFP grants in your organization.

If you did not use an Authorization Code when you registered, you will be notified by email when your registration is approved.
