Basic Information
EPA's Office of Policy, Economics, and Innovation (OPEI) supports rule writing and encourages innovation to support changing business conditions. OPEI is staffed by regulatory, policy, economic, business sector, and cross-media experts.
We manage the Agency-wide rule writing process and ensure that underlying policy analyses are sound. We help strengthen our decisionmaking processes by working with EPA's Science Advisor to strengthen the integration of scientific and economic analyses.
OPEI also supports the Agency mission by promoting innovation that achieves greater and more cost-effective public health and environmental protection. In consultation with our different internal and external stakeholders and partners, we support and oversee the testing of new and innovative approaches to environmental protection and related policy changes.
