INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEALMAKER to Toronto, Canada, February 9-10, 2000 

The U.S. Commercial Service in Toronto is organizing a two-day Information Technology Dealmaker to provide U.S. small- and medium-sized, export-ready, companies with a cost effective and highly efficient means to promote their products and services in the Canadian information technology market. In addition to meeting one-on-one, with pre-qualified potential business partners in Canada, participating firms will receive broad market exposure and valuable insights from market research and focused industry briefings. Participants will also benefit from various networking events including a visit to the Internet World 2000 trade show, scheduled for February 9-11 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. SECRETARIAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MISSION, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile, February 13-21, 2000 

SECRETARY OF COMMERCE William M. Daley will travel to Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile as head of a senior-level business development mission focused on three key growth sectors -- information and communications technology, environment and energy. Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, together with Paraguay, form Mercosur, the acronym in Spanish for the Southern Common Market, the world's fourth largest economic area, a customs union with a population in excess of 200 million people and a combined GDP of approximately $1 trillion. Chile, along with Bolivia, is an associate member of Mercosur. 

The mission will visit Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Montevideo, Buenos Aires and Santiago. The overall focus of the trip will be commercial opportunities for U.S. companies, including joint ventures, presented by the continuing market liberalization and privatizations within Mercosur. In each country, briefings and matchmaking business appointments will be arranged for members of the business delegation in order that they may take full advantage of the commercial opportunities available to firms in these key South American markets. Individual country briefings will include local public and private sector officials to discuss developments in the country that affect the commercial environment.

DEFENSE TRADE MISSION 2000, The Hague, The Netherlands & Brussels, Belgium, February 1-3, 2000 

US&FCS The Hague will recruit and organize a Defense Trade Mission from February 1-3, 2000. The trade mission will consist of a two-day program in The Hague, The Netherlands and a one-day program in Brussels, Belgium. Mission Statement

Hotel and Recreation Equipment Trade Mission to Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, February, 8-11, 2000 

The U.S. Commercial Service in Santo Domingo is organizing a Hotel and Recreation Equipment Trade Mission to Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata on February 8-11, 2000. This mission will target the following sectors : 

Hotel and restaurant equipment including catering equipment, commercial cooking apparatus, institutional food preparation equipment, commercial laundry equipment, vending machines, hotel automation equipment, and resort furnishings. 

Sporting goods and recreational equipment including health exercise facilities, resort/leisure facilities equipment, tennis equipment, camping/outdoor equipment, fishing equipment, and fitness equipment. Mission Statement

Aerospace Executive Service (formerly the CEO Program) at Asia Aerospace, February, 21-23, 2000 

The Commercial Service (CS) Singapore and the CS Aerospace and Defense team, with partner organization the Aerospace Industry Association, are organizing the AES at Asian Aerospace 2000. Asian Aerospace is Asia's leading showcase of commercial and military aircraft components, maintenance equipment, defense systems and airport equipment/systems. In 1998, the show attracted 1,000 exhibitors from 70 countries, and over 27,000 trade visitors from Asia/Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America. 

The AES affords lower-cost access to small and medium-sized businesses by allowing them to participate in Asia's largest aerospace exposition without taking on the enormous expense of purchasing and staffing booth space. Mission Statement

Healthcare Technologies Matchmaker to Madrid, Spain and Milan, Italy, February 28 - March 3, 2000 

Export Promotion Services Matchmaker Trade Delegation Program will lead a Healthcare Technologies Matchmaker Trade Delegation to Madrid, Spain and Milan, Italy, February 28-March 3, 2000. The Matchmaker will target the healthcare technologies industries, including medical and dental equipment and supplies; pharmaceuticals; and healthcare services sectors. The focus of the delegation will be to match participating U.S. companies with qualified agents, distributors, representatives, licensees, and joint venture partners in these markets. Manufacturing Matchmaker to New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune, India, April 3-11, 2000

Export Promotion Services Matchmaker Program, is organizing a Manufacturing Matchmaker Trade Delegation to India, April 3-11, 2000. This event will be promoted to major U.S. manufacturing sub-sectors including: building products; computers and peripherals; pollution control; food processing and packaging; and general industrial equipment. Telecommunications Matchmaker Trade Delegation to Madrid, Spain and Rome, Italy, April 10-15, 2000

Export Promotion Services' Matchmaker Program, in cooperation with the Office of Telecommunications, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), will lead a Telecommunications Matchmaker Trade Delegation to Madrid, Spain and Rome, Italy April 10-15, 2000. The Matchmaker will target telecommunication equipment and services. The focus of the delegation will be to match U.S. companies with qualified agents, distributors, representatives, licensees, and joint venture partners in those telecommunications markets. Thailand Airports 2000 - Bangkok, Thailand, April 26-27, 2000

The Thailand Airports 2000 mission will consist of two days of business briefings, technical presentations, company presentations and individual appointments between mission participants and Thai and foreign general contractors. There will be a third day of optional matchmaker meetings for NTM firms. All interested U.S. suppliers of airport construction materials, specialized airport terminal and ground support equipment, other airport equipment and services are invited to participate in this mission for one of Asia’s largest infrastructure projects. Participating firms in the mission will be seeking to become sub-contractors to supply construction materials, fixtures, specialized airport equipment and machinery (e.g., baggage handling and sorting systems, people movers, elevators, passenger bridges), airport information systems, etc., to the general contractors which will be submitting bids to construct the terminal. A number of major Thai contractors, as well as several large foreign construction companies, are expected to vie for this contract.

MAY 2000

Women in Trade Business Development Mission to France and the Netherlands, May 7-12, 2000 

Women In Trade Business Development Missions focus on women owned or managed businesses. This WIT Mission will target the Netherlands and France, two major U.S. export markets with wide-ranging opportunities for American companies, and both good locations for business throughout Europe. Women In Trade Business Development Missions enjoy the support of the National Association of Women Business Owners, the Organization of Women in International Trade, and similar business organizations. This WIT Mission is open to all business executives without restriction. Prospective mission members have products and services with market potential in France and the Netherlands. Deputy Secretary Mallett Global Diversity NAFTA Trade Mission to Canada and Mexico, May 8-12, 2000

Deputy Secretary of Commerce Robert Mallett will travel to Mexico and another senior Department of Commerce official will travel to Canada as head of a business development mission focused on minority companies. The Mission will go to Mexico and Canada, which, as our largest trading partners, offer excellent opportunities for companies new-to-export. 

The mission will visit Mexico City, Mexico and Vancouver, Canada. The overall focus of the trip will be international business opportunities for U.S. companies, including finding agents and/or distributors. In each country, briefings and matchmaking business appointments will be arranged for members of the business delegation to take full advantage of the commercial opportunities available to firms in these markets. Aerospace Trade Mission to Brazil, May 14-20, 2000

The Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology and Aerospace Industries will lead an aerospace trade mission to Brazil, May 14-20, 2000. The mission will include representatives from a variety of U.S. aerospace firms interested in gaining a foothold in the fast-growing Brazilian aerospace market. Mission Statement

The Saudi Health-Tech Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) in Trenton, New Jersey and Newport Beach, California Area EAC's, May 22-27, 2000

Commercial Service Saudi Arabia (Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran) will organize and lead a delegation of senior business representatives from the Saudi healthcare industry to the New Jersey/New York and Los Angeles areas to meet with potential U.S. suppliers. 

The primary objective of the RTM is to match U.S. firms with participating Saudi companies which can act as qualified agents, distributors, representatives, licensees, end users, and joint venture partners, primarily in the pharmaceutical, medical, dental and laboratory equipment fields. The overall market for medical equipment in Saudi Arabia has expanded with the growing demand for sophisticated medical services. The introduction of advanced treatments has stimulated the market for advanced diagnostic, monitoring and treatment devices. Mission Statement

JUNE 2000

Housing Business Development Mission to China, June 5-14, 2000 

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Basic Industries Alan S. Bowser will travel to the People's Republic of China as head of a business development mission focused on the housing industry. China's privatization of the housing market has caused a dramatic increase in the market demand for affordable, energy-efficient, and quality housing. 

The mission will visit Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Beijing on June 5-14, 2000. The overall focus of the mission will be commercial opportunities for US housing products and housing finance companies. In each city, detailed briefings and matchmaking opportunities will be arranged for members of the business delegation in order that they may take full advantage of the potential commercial opportunities available to firms in each of these key regional areas of China. 

This mission will be the first of its type conducted under the banner of the US-China Housing Initiative that was announced by President Clinton in July 1998. Mission Statement

U.S. Information Technology Trade Mission to Far East Asia, Far East Asia, Hong Kong, China, Taipei, Taiwan, Seoul and Pusan, South Korea, June 11-17, 2000
 

The Office of Computers and Business Equipment will lead an information technologies (IT) industry trade mission to Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul and Pusan, South Korea from June 11 to 17, 2000. The mission will be led by John E. McPhee, Director of the Office of Computers and Business Equipment in the International Trade Administration. The project manager is Tu-Trang Phan, a computer market specialist. It will include representatives from a variety of U.S. IT firms specializing in Internet technologies, e-commerce, and wireless technologies who are interested in entering or expanding their presence in Far East Asia. Telecommunications Trade Mission to Chile and Argentina, June 18-23, 2000

Ellis R. Mottur, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology and Aerospace Industries, will lead a telecommunications trade mission to Chile and Argentina June 18-23, 2000. The mission will include a Commerce Department staff member from ITA's Office of Telecommunications to help coordinate logistics and administration. The mission is designed for representatives from a variety of U.S. telecom services and equipment firms interested in gaining a foothold in the fast-growing Chilean and Argentine telecommunications markets. U.S. Department of Commerce-led Delegation to Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Ministerial Meeting and Related Events in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, June 20-23, 2000

Brunei, Chair of APEC 2000, will host the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Ministerial and related events, including a Business Forum and E-Commerce Workshop, from June 20-23, in Bandar Seri Begawan. 

The Department of Commerce is the lead U.S. Government agency on SME issues in APEC. It is important that the DOC maintain the profile of SME issues within the APEC forum and make substantial, tangible progress on USG objectives, including E-Commerce. A senior Commerce Department official will lead the U.S. delegation, including interagency and private sector participation. Mission Statement

Farnborough UK International Air Show 2000, July 24-30, 2000.

The Commercial Service (CS) United Kingdom, the Show Case Europe Team and the CS Aerospace and Defense team, in cooperation with Trade Development's Office of Aerospace, are organizing the Aerospace Executive Service (AES) at Farnborough International Air Show 2000. Farnborough International Air Show 2000 is Europe's second leading showcase, after the Paris Air Show, of commercial and military aircraft components, maintenance equipment, defense systems and airport equipment/systems. In 1998, the show attracted 1,325 exhibitors from 32 countries, and over 170,000 visitors.

SEPTEMBER 2000 

Clean Energy Trade Mission to Mexico, September 10-14, 2000.

This mission will promote the export of U.S. natural gas and natural gas technologies to Mexico. It will take place in September, 2000 in Mexico City and Monterrey, Mexico and will be led by the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Basic Industries or a designee. Mission participants will include representatives from the U.S. natural gas; power plant design engineering and construction; utilities; and cogeneration technologies industries interested in entering or expanding their presence in Mexico's natural gas market. Environmental Technologies Matchmaker Trade Delegation to Brazil and Argentina, September 11-15, 2000.

Export Promotion Services Matchmaker Program is organizing an Environmental Technologies Matchmaker Trade Delegation to South America September 11 - 15, 2000. This event will be promoted to the U.S. environmental industry and will focus on helping companies expand into this market. ACE/Infrastructure Matchmaker Delegation, September 18-22, 2000.

Export Promotion Services Matchmaker Program, is organizing an Architecture, Construction and Engineering/Infrastructure Matchmaker Trade Delegation to Greece and Turkey, September 18-24, 2000. This Matchmaker will target sectors of the architecture, construction, and engineering/infrastructure industry that relate to tourism and will focus on helping industry expand into these two promising markets. Corporate Executive Office Mission at ExpoPharm 2000, Cologne, Germany, September 28 - October 1, 2000.

CS Düsseldorf will recruit and organize a U.S. exhibitor delegation to Expopharm’00. The event will be held September 28- October 1, 2000 in Cologne, Germany. Expopharm is the largest pharmaceutical, over the counter (OTC) products, and health supplements trade show in Europe. Expopharm is organized by the German Pharmaceutical Association, "Werbe- und Vertriebsgesellschaft Deutscher Apotheker mbH." The organizers of Expopharm are very interested in the presence of international exhibitors, and they support CS Dusseldorf’s efforts to organize a USA pavilion under the CEO program, in German called "USA Kontaktbörse." American manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, OTC products, and health supplements will be able to present their products on the exhibition floor of this large international trade show. For $2,500, a fraction of the regular cost of exhibiting, participants in this CEO program will receive a limited exhibition area, their own meeting space and a bilingual assistant. Franchising Trade Mission to Malaysia, Philippines, and South Korea, September 28 - October 6, 2000.

The Office of Service Industries, in cooperation with the International Franchise Association, will lead a business development trade mission to Malaysia, the Philippines and South Korea to promote the U.S. franchise industry and focus on finding master franchisees and investors in these markets. According to the Department of Commerce's Commercial Service officials in Malaysia, the Philippines, and South Korea, franchising represents "Best Prospects" for U.S. firms seeking business opportunities in these countries. OCTOBER 2000 

Assistant Secretarial Business Development Mission to Egypt, Kenya and South Africa to Russia, October 1-7, 2000.

Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service Marge Searing will lead a senior-level business development Matchmaker trade mission focusing on women-owned and women-managed businesses to the countries of Egypt, Kenya and South Africa. This Business Development Mission is being organized to coincide with the Global Summit of Women 2000: Africa being held in Johannesburg, South Africa on October 5-7. While the trade mission and summit focus on women-owned and/or managed companies, participation is not limited to such businesses and all interested U.S. companies are encouraged to apply.

The mission will visit Cairo, Egypt; Nairobi, Kenya; and Johannesburg, South Africa with an optional stop to Cape Town, South Africa. The overall focus of the trip will be commercial opportunities for U.S. companies, including joint ventures, presented by the continuing market liberalization and privatization happening in these countries. In each country, briefings and matchmaking business appointments will be made for members of the business delegation. In Johannesburg, the delegation will attend the Global Summit of Women 2000: Africa (October 5-7). The delegation will be able to participate in all sessions being offered in the conference. A participation fee for the trade mission will be approximately $1800 per company. Options exist that would allow companies to select some but not all stops and the fee will vary accordingly. Clean Energy Trade Mission to Russia, October 15-21, 2000.

Aerospace DealMaker 2000, Montreal, Canada October 16-17, 2000.

The Commercial Service of the U.S. Consulate in Montreal is organizing an "Aerospace DealMaker" trade event, which will visit Montreal, October 16-17, 2000. Participating U.S. companies will benefit from briefings by local experts on the Canadian market, a networking reception and most importantly, pre-scheduled, pre-qualified one-on-one meetings with Canadian aerospace companies. Mission participants will also benefit from special presentations by Bombardier Aerospace and Bell Helicopter Textron, each of which will be followed by mini "suppliers conferences" given by purchasing executives within these two companies. NOVEMBER 2000 

Clean Energy Trade Mission to Brazil, November 5-9, 2000.

This mission will promote the export of U.S. natural gas and cogeneration technologies. It will take place from November 5 - November 9, 2000 in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will be led by the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Basic Industries or a designee. Mission participants will include representatives from U.S. natural gas and cogeneration equipment and technologies companies; power industry design engineering firms; and utilities interested in entering or expanding their presence in Brazil's clean energy markets. Aerospace Executive Service, China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, November 6-8, 2000.

This mission provides a value-added means for small and medium-sized U.S. companies to participate in the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, without the expense of purchasing and staffing a booth.

The U.S. Commercial Service is organizing the Aerospace Executive Service (AES) at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, to be held in Zhuhai, China, November 6-8,2000. The exhibition is the only event of its kind that features seminars and product displays from China's civil aviation and aerospace industries, and from all the relevant Chinese government agencies. Held once every two years, Airshow China presents a unique opportunity for U.S. companies to meet the entire Chinese aerospace industry in one place. In 1998, the show attracted 500 exhibitors from 25 countries. Participation in the AES will save companies the expense of a booth, and at the same time, companies will receive valuable support that makes their visit to Airshow China as productive as possible. Telecommunications Matchmaker Trade Delegation to Singapore and Taipei, Taiwan, November 13-17, 2000.

Corporate Executive Office (CEO) Mission at Medica, Dusseldorf, Germany, November 22-25, 2000.

The US Department of Commerce’s Commercial Service (CS) office in Düsseldorf, together with the ITA Health Care Technology Team, is organizing the major annual Corporate Executive Office (CEO) at Medica ‘00, the world’s largest and most prestigious medical equipment and diagnostics show in the world, with over 3,200 exhibitors and over 122,000 visitors from 80 countries. Medica attracts thousands of visitors from Central and Eastern Europe and from Asia. This Medica CEO is the major event in Europe for the strategic medical sector under the Department of Commerce’s Showcase Europe program. As the only effective alternative to exhibiting at or simply visiting Medica for U.S. exporters, the CEO program targets new-to-market US companies in this sector that have not previously exhibited at Medica. The CEO program affords lower cost access to Medica, allowing small and medium- sized businesses to participate in the world’s largest medical trade show where they would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate due to the high cost. The Medica CEO is intended as an alternative to exhibiting. The US Commercial Service envisions that CEO participants will eventually exhibit in the USA Pavilion or in the industry-specific location on the exhibition floor. Thus, preference will be given to businesses who are not multiple-year participants in past Medica CEOs. Mission Statement

Clean Energy Trade Mission to India, November 26-December 3, 2000.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Basic Industries or a designee will lead a clean energy trade mission to India on November 26 to December 3, 2000. The mission will include representatives from U.S. energy companies and energy equipment and service providers interested in entering the Indian energy market or in expanding their presence in the region. The focus of the mission will be natural gas infrastructure, renovation of existing power generation and transmission facilities, high efficiency turbines and boilers, waste heat recovery and cogeneration, clean coal technology, renewable energy technologies, industrial heat pumps, and energy efficiency products and services (including energy saving performance contracts). Kitchen and Bath Trade Mission to Toronto, Canada, November 29-30, 2000.

The Department of Commerce’s Commercial Service office in Toronto is organizing a two-day Kitchen and Bath Trade Mission to provide U.S. small and medium sized, export-ready, companies with a cost effective and highly efficient means to promote their products and services in the Canadian construction market. In addition to meeting, one-on-one, with pre-qualified potential trade partners in Canada, participating firms will receive broad market exposure and valuable market insights from market research and focused industry briefings. Participants will also have an opportunity to attend more than 150 top level workshops and seminars, as well as special networking events with prospective Canadian firms at Construct Canada 2000, Homebuilders & Renovator Expo and the 1st annual Kitchen and Bath Show, Canada's premier trade exhibition for products, technologies and services for the commercial and residential construction industries. The three shows in one will take place on November 29 to December 1 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Mission Statement

DECEMBER 2000 

Textile Trade Mission to Central America and the Dominican Republic, December 3-9, 2000.

The Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce will sponsor a textile trade mission to the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, December 3-9, 2000. The mission will be led by an officer from the Office of Textiles and Apparel and accompanied by a staff member from the American Textile Manufacturers Institute (ATMI). The ATMI is the national trade association for the U.S. textile industry. The mission will consist of representatives from U.S. apparel fabric companies interested in selling their products in Central America and the Dominican Republic or establishing local representation agreements. Information and Communications Technology Trade Mission to the Nordic-Baltic region, December 3-12, 2000.

The Department of Commerce's Export Assistance Centers in Silicon Valley, in cooperation with the Commercial Service posts in the Nordic-Baltic Region (Copenhagen, Denmark; Oslo, Norway; Stockholm, Sweden; Helsinki, Finland and St. Petersburg, Russia), will lead an information and communications technology (ICT) trade mission to the Nordic-Baltic region, December 3 - December 12, 2000. Although the trade mission targets ICT firms in Silicon Valley, all U.S. high-tech, cutting-edge firms are eligible and welcome to apply.

The mission will be led by International Trade Specialist Tish Falco. It will focus on the following specific sub-sectors: E-commerce, internet technologies, and telecom equipment and services. Mission Statement
