FAA Project: Newark, NJ

Relocation and Renovation of Building 51

FAA funded the relocation and renovation of Building 51 at Newark Liberty International Airport. Originally constructed as the terminal building, it was built next to the world's first paved runway and dedicated in 1935 by Amelia Earhart. The Art Deco building was the haunt of early aviation pioneers like Charles Lindbergh and Wiley Post.

Recognizing its historic role, the project sponsor - the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey - moved it about 3/4 of a mile to a location outside the runway safety area.
