Federal Transit Administration and Preserve America

Photo of the Ferry Building
The Ferry Building in San Francisco, CA, built in 1898, has survived 2 major earthquakes and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) on-going grant programs have supported and continue to support historic preservation and the Preserve America initiative. As part of FTA's investment in public transportation, many transit projects are located in historic communities where they enhance access to the community and the economic viability of the community. Transit projects also support the preservation of historic buildings by adapting or rehabilitating buildings for transit uses such as stations.
