    Scanned images of historical USGS topographic maps have been made available on this website for viewing and downloading. The USGS began producing topographic maps in the 1880's and the images contained in this website represent the earliest available USGS standard topographic maps available for the San Francisco Bay Region.

    Note: The links below cover an area outlined by the USGS 1:100,000 scale published maps.

Important NOTE:

    As of October 2004, the historical map images are available free from our server. They are available in jpg format at a scan resolution of 200dpi and an image size of 8.5 x 11 inches.   File size is approximately 1-3mb.   Full size images at a resolution of 400dpi are available as well.  These full sized images have been compressed using MrSid compression software and are approximately 8 - 10 mb in size.  For information on viewing MrSid compressed images please vist LizardTech, Inc.
