CRIMINAL JUSTICE EXPENDITURE AND EMPLOYMENT SURVEY

PURPOSE

To provide periodic estimates of state and local governments expenditure, employment and payrolls for justice activities. The United States Code, Titles 15 and 42, authorizes this data collection and provides for voluntary responses. The Bureau of Justice Statistics fully funds this collection

COVERAGE

Contiguous with the sample for the annual surveys of public employment and finance.

CONTENT

Criminal justice related finance and employment data.

FREQUENCY

Annually.

METHODS

As this is an extract survey, the methods involve assimilation, and presentation of existing survey data. When the samples of the core programs do not support state by type estimates, additional estimates are performed.

Annual public use file, data file, and tables. Often Census and the sponsor co-author a bulletin.
